a Powered by Pablove Researcher’s success story

December 14, 2023

This amazing research breakthrough is one example of the profound impact of Pablove grants

Dr. Holly Meany was awarded one of our first ever Powered by Pablove research grants. Her project focused on an innovative new treatment for Wilms Tumor, a rare kidney cancer.
Unfortunately, when her study ended, Dr. Meany learned that the drug combination she developed was not as promising as she hoped. But the story didn’t end there.

The knowledge gained from her Pablove project sparked another idea for Dr. Meany and her colleagues years later.  They wanted to test a new drug combination that they hoped would work even better in patients with Wilms Tumor.  Using the research tools she developed with her Pablove funding, Dr. Meany launched a Phase 1 Clinical Trial at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C.

This time, her results were exciting. By 2021, a new treatment option for Wilms Tumor was finally on the horizon.

With support from The Pablove Foundation, Dr. Meany’s discovery brings new hope to families.

As one of the first Phase 1 Trials to ever be developed at Children’s National Hospital, this study builds a critical foundation for other early phase clinical studies by different investigators — a testament to how big our seed grants can grow!

Over the past decade, you’ve helped us to award over $3.7M in funding to bold researchers like Dr. Meany. While their experiments may not always yield the anticipated results, the seeds planted can bloom into other, unexpected discoveries, with even longer-lasting outcomes.

If you haven’t already, could you consider making a tax-deductible gift to our 2023 Year-End Giving campaign? The impact of your contribution will be doubled, thanks to a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $15,000!

Now is the perfect time to stand up for a safer treatments and cures. Your support accelerates the next  big discovery, while giving hope + joy to kids facing cancer through our evidence-based quality of life enhancing programs. Click here to show your generosity.
