NEEDED: Photography mentors for Pablove Shutterbugs Winter 2014

December 18, 2013

Our signature 8-week Pablove Shutterbugs photography program for children and teens living with cancer in Southern California is just one month away! We are still urgently seeking volunteer photographers to serve as mentors so each student who has enrolled in the course can participate. Professional photographers or photography students in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:

  • North San Fernando Valley (Granada Hills, Northridge, Sylmar, Burbank, La Crescenta)
  • Thousand Oaks/Calabasas
  • San Gabriel Valley (Alhambra, San Dimas, West Covina, Diamond Bar)
  • Downey/Pico Rivera/Norwalk/Cerritos
  • Montebello/Whittier/La Habra
  • Anaheim/Fullerton/Yorba Linda

Learning photography concepts alongside other kids undergoing similar experiences empowers pediatric cancer patients to express themselves, exercise their independence, and practice new ways of seeing – all while having fun!

Volunteer Mentors work directly with their students through a mix of one-on-one lessons at the student’s home and group classes at our Hollywood classroom. Mentors receive extensive training about working with families affected by cancer and will follow a basic photography curriculum established by Pablove Shutterbugs.

Our upcoming Los Angeles program starts January 11, 2014 and ends on March 15, 2014. Mentors are required to attend three mentor meetings: orientation/training, mid-term check-in, and a wrap-up session.

Interested do-gooders may apply by emailing [email protected] for an application.
