A fundraiser with serious appetite – meet the donors behind Drive by Dinners

May 29, 2020

In Houston, our Friends of Pablove supporters started Drive by Dinners as a way to help their friends and local business owners during the pandemic. But the generosity of these women did more than just bring delicious dinners to locals — their love spilled over to Pablove’s plate too– turning a meal-pickup event into a hugely successful fundraiser to help fight childhood cancer!

Michele Bua, owner of Bua’s Bistro & Catering has been a small business owner in Houston for many years. Her life and her business, like many others around the world, changed drastically when the virus hit. So, her friends, Jeanne Kugler and Carla Schraub of Allegiance Title Company Memorial stepped in to find a creative way they could help their community and small business survive. The group organized a weekly meal pick-up where Houstonians could pick up delicious, home cooked dinners curbside for just $5, (a suggested donation for The Pablove Foundation).

The palette-popping plates created by Chef Michele for the Drive by Dinners were so popular that after the first week, the event had customers asking to order 3 ‚Äď 5 extra meals.

The event lasted for 4 weeks, and was fortunate to have numerous sponsors including Title Resource Guaranty, Old Republic Title Underwriters, Survey1 Surveyors, Certainty Home Loans ‚ÄstJoady Rubin & Debbie Cash and Tammy Rose with Old Republic Home Warranty.

These sponsors were vital to support Michele and her fabulous food. Of the experience, Kugler says:

“Before our lives changed I had wanted to do a little fundraiser for The Pablove Foundation. The pandemic changed all that! ¬†We are all trying to stay healthy and safe. But, children with cancer and other chronic health issues are always fighting to stay healthy and survive!¬† We thought if we asked for a small ($5.00) donation for each dinner we could help support¬†The Pablove Foundation. Our little idea to help a friend and raise a little money for Pablove was so fulfilling and a big success!”

We are proud to announce that Drive by Dinners raised $875.00 for Pablove. But it didn’t stop there, when Jeanne told her friend Scott Talley of¬† NIA ‚ÄúNetwork In Action‚Ä̬†about the Drive By Dinners fundraiser, Scott jumped in and donated $125.00 to get to the goal of $1,000 total!

We are so grateful and thank all of the sponsors, donors and volunteers who made this delicious event possible!

the power of pablove, a note from our CEO

March 23, 2020
  the power of pablove
a note from our CEO, Kerstin Lynam

Dear friend,

We believe in the strength and power of community. Pablove was founded on the love of friends and family coming together in a time of crisis. And we’re proud and grateful to serve as a beacon of hope and support in dark times. It’s literally who we are and what makes us tick. It’s what’s called each of our team and board members to carry out this mission and dig into this life-changing work. And it’s the vibrant spirit of pablove that likely made you join us, too!

While this forced disruption of our ‚Äúnormal lives‚ÄĚ feels so new to many¬†of us, this is the all-too familiar reality for our Shutterbugs and their families. The unpredictable routine¬†dictated by¬†cancer and its treatment¬†comes¬†full of risks and without any sense of¬†control.¬†I‚Äôm humbled by this realization.¬†As we face this¬†unprecedented moment in our lifetimes,¬†I feel an even deeper connection to the communities¬†we serve.

The Pablove Foundation¬†remains committed to¬†improving the lives of¬†kids with cancer¬†and funding the critical research to fuel their cures.¬†Our work will not stop.¬†These changing times have provided us the momentum¬†to¬†innovate¬†how¬†we deliver healing arts to kids who need it most. While our Spring 2020 Shutterbugs classes are¬†postponed,¬†we’re developing activities¬†to engage and¬†creatively nurture¬†our students in the¬†virtual¬†realm.

As we navigate this pandemic, we’re¬†especially thankful for our hospital and research partners, many of whom are keeping us updated from the frontlines of tackling Covid-19.

I am also grateful to every single one of you reading this. It is YOU who will continue to sustain our mission. Thank you for the goodness and care you have shown us. We hope we make your life brighter too!

I love exploring the photos in our¬†Pablove Prints Shop¬†— so many of the images express such a¬†joie de vivre.¬†We can learn¬†so much from our Shutterbugs’¬†positive perspectives.

Let‚Äôs stay connected via email and social media as we¬†keep fighting childhood cancer with love. Together, we will infuse¬†hope + light¬†at the¬†time when our world needs it most.¬†ūüíď

stay well + stay with pablove,

Kerstin Lynam, CEO

our commitment to you during COVID ‚Äď 19

March 11, 2020

UPDATED: March 16, 2020

We want to update you on The Pablove Foundation’s planning and response to the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation, with our continued focus on guarding the safety and well-being of our communities, with a special eye on our Shutterbugs who may be immunocompromised.

The Pablove Foundation includes a wonderful Scientific Advisory Board, that is charged with selecting the most impactful research to fund help find a cure. This Board is comprised of medical and medical research professionals, and we have consulted some of them on what we ‚Äď as a Foundation ‚Äď should consider going forward. Further, we are in touch with our Hospital partners across the nation, and we are adapting according to their recommendations. We are obviously concerned about our Shutterbugs:

  • Houston Shutterbugs Introductory Class (Spring 2020): Class has been postponed until further notice
  • All Other Introductory Classes: Postponed until further notice
  • New York City Advanced Class: Classes will be held online for the remainder of the current session
  • Shutterbugs Summer Camp (June): No change as of now
  • All Shutterbugs Gallery Shows originally scheduled for the spring will be postponed until further notice
  • Pablove Shutterbugs graduation events will be conducted online

We will be in touch with parents and Shutterbugs supporting teaching teams if and when plans change with additional information.

The Pablove Foundation and its origin are based on love and community. We continue to believe that community matters but it must reflect the guidance for health policy advisors.  To stay safe, we recommend:

  • Wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze then throw the tissue in the trash. Then wash your hands with soap and water
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid shaking hands and instead use an alternative greeting protocol
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick (stay 6 feet away)
  • Clean and disinfect all frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Heed the advice from your local authorities

For questions and concerns, please contact info@pablove.org or email me at kerstin@pablove.org

with care and pablove,

Kerstin Lynam
