Tonight, we are in Marfa, Texas. Our dedication goes out to Riley Philpot, who has just relapsed for the third time. Her doctors have told her parents that there are no other chemotherapy or surgery options. Her parents—both doctors—insist that there must be another path. They ask for our intentions to be directed toward Riley as they search for non-chemo options.

Halloween night. A magical time for kids and adults who love acting like kids. Tonight, we dedicate our evening hours to Lowri Elizabeth van der Werff. She lived in Auckland, New Zealand and passed away on September 23, 2002.

Today’s dedication goes out to Karen Reycraft from Miami. She went through breast cancer treatment six years ago, and has recently had a cancer-related follow-up procedure. Karen is the mother of Dangerbird intern Melissa Perez. In an interesting twist on The Pablove Foundation’s focus on children, this is a situation where cancer has affected the adult child of a cancer patient.

Jo Ann and I are deeply saddened to tell you that Malachi “Kai” Smith passed away this morning at 8:18 am at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. We dedicated our ride to Kai on October 16, the day after his cancer had recurred. Pablove Across America is dedicated today to pediatric cancer survivor Kelsey Burke. She is 16 today, and was diagnosed at age 13. Kelsey was treated for the form of Leukemia known as ALL at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and then City of Hope in suburban LA. She has been cancer-free for 34 months! Tonight we dedicate all the energy and goodness Pablove Across America has to offer to Danielle Kosta. Her mom Rhonda posted this comment on the Pablove Foundation Facebook page after seeing Sunday night’s dedication: Thank you for all that you are doing to find a cure for this horrible disease. My daughter Danielle was diagnosed with Wilm’s at the age of 9 months, and battled for 19 months, earning her wings on April 1, 2008, at the age of 2 1/2.

Today’s dedication is to our great friend, 15-year-old Kirby Kersels. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma in seventh grade and received treatment at City of Hope cancer center in Duarte, California. Kirby was in kindergarten and first grade with Grady, and was a friend of Pablo from the moment of his birth. To see the two of them play together while Pablo was in treatment was a special thing. We had the first ever Pablove Foundation party today at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. We met a bunch of kids, including 18-year-old Bucky Ribbeck. He sat down with Jeff to talk about his experience as a high school cancer patient.

He’s a football and baseball star at Jesuit high here in Houston, and we had a great time talking with him and his mom yesterday. We’ll be dedicating our rides over the next few days to the many great kids and families we met at TCH.

Goodnight from Brenham, Texas, the city where this fine state was founded back in the day. Tonight, we dedicate our hearts to a little girl named Haley Mathis whose battle with cancer ended on Pablo’s birthday, June 21, 2005. She was 22 months old. We’ll carry her through the night as we rest our bodies for tomorrow’s 123 mile stage into Austin.

It’s our last night in Louisiana, and we’re dedicating it to Bryce Norwood who lived in Stanley, just 92 miles from where we are this evening. Bryce passed away on Valentine’s Day 2008. He was six years old. Someone told his parents said he was a gravitational force—that no matter where he was, people were drawn to him. Sounds a lot like our boy Pablo!

Today’s short ride up the Gulf Coast is dedicated to two-year-old Alyson Thompson from Portland, Oregon. We’ll cross into Alabama halfway into our route today, and we’ll pass through Gulf Shores, ending in Foley. It’s a short one today – only 40 miles. We need the rest after hammering in the rain yesterday.

Tonight, we sleep in Pensacola, Florida. Our nightly dedication this evening honors Chelsea Anne Hicks from Tigard, Oregon. She was four years old when she lost her battle to cancer on February 20, 2009. Our hearts are filled with her memory and warm thoughts for her family tonight as we call this day to an end.
